Dog Agility Training Information
Agility is one of the fastest growing dog sports in the USA. It provides dog and handler with the opportunity to work together as a team. Agility courses are made up of obstacles the dog must perform correctly. The handler directs the dog, off leash, through a series of obstacles that include jumps of various types, climbing or contact obstacles, weave poles, several types of tunnels and a pause table. Each course is timed and the dog that finishes with the fewest course faults and the fastest time wins.
GTOTC offers Agility training on two levels, Beginners and Advanced. Our instructors are experienced in the sport and have dogs who have earned titles in Agility.
The Beginners course is geared to teaching your dog the proper way to navigate the obstacles. A dog that has had basic obedience training will be comfortable in this class. It is the class where handlers learn the basics for directing their dogs for a successful "run".
The Advanced course is for those dogs that are proficient on the equipment and are ready to begin putting together sequences of obstacles. Handlers learn to refine their handling techniques and begin practicing for entering competition.
Agility is enjoyable for everyone, dog, handler and spectator. It is always entertaining to spectators whether the dog does as the handler asks or not.
